First Case Of Coronavirus In U.S. Detected In Traveler From China

              A man is in isolation at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett, Washington after returning home to Washington state after a trip to Wuhan China on Jan. 15, 2020. This is the first case in the U.S. of an infection with a new coronavirus, named 2019-nCoV, which causes respiratory symptoms like pneumonia. Cases have also been confirmed in Japan, Thailand, and South Korea.

              Chinese authorities first identified the new coronavirus in Wuhan, China on December 31, 2020. There have been 300 confirmed human infections in China with six deaths reported. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitoring the outbreak.

              The CDC recommends that healthcare providers should practice sound infection control procedures and obtain a detailed travel history for patients being evaluated with fever and acute respiratory illness.
